Second District Supervisor Candidate Estelle Fennell announced this week her praise for the federal bankruptcy court's confirmation order for the Pacific Lumber Co. reorganization plan put forward by Mendocino Redwoods Co.
Fennell indicated Judge Richard Schmidt's decision marks an important turning point for residents, business and the environment in the 2nd District.
"Having studied the plan, it's clear to me that this is by far the best way to move ahead," Fennell stated in a news release. "The new owner has promised to bring a long-term focus to management of these valuable resource lands and has made a commitment to practicing sustainable forestry. The timberland and the mill will once again be integrated and residents of the town of Scotia who had wondered if they would be able to keep their homes can now begin to plan for the future."
Fennell said that she appreciated the court's commitment to bringing a close to the long drawn out bankruptcy hearings and if elected in November, will be proud to be part of the positive change that's symbolized by the significant decision and pledged her support to work with the new company.
